BENEFITS OF SUNSCREEN
Myths you believed were protecting you from the Sun
#1: “All sunscreens protect against UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays.”
“Many people believe that applying any old SPF will help keep us safe from both kinds of the Sun’s harmful rays.” says Sharon Maxwell, an International Dermal Institute“ Unfortunately, this is not true.”
SPF theoretically indicates how long it will take for the UVB rays, to burn the skin. For example, SPF 15 allows a person to stay in the Sun for 15 times longer without burning than someone with no sunscreen. This has nothing to do with UVA rays, which are the same rays emitted by tanning booths. UVA rays penetrate the skin more deeply, and play a major role in accelerating the signs of aging and generating Skin Cancer. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends a “Liberal use” of SPF 30 (Picture a shot glass full of sunscreen for your whole body.) and reapplying that every 2 hours, or after swimming, or exercising.
#2:” It’s cloudy outside I don’t need sunscreen.”
Sun damage doesn’t just happen during the summer months or at the beach. Photo damage or UV exposure (Which causes aging) can occur from exposure to daylight through glass and even indoor fluorescent lighting. This is why protecting the skin everyday is imperative. Roughly 90 percent of photo aging is preventable by wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen daily. At Blair Medspa we offer Medical grade

Why is it so important to wear sunscreen after laser?
Answer .. after laser your skin is more sensitive to the sun and can cause post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, are even scarring. I recommend if you are going to the car and into your job a Spf 30. If you are going to be walking around outside for more than 10 min. SPF 50. The difference between the 2 is the time you need to reapply .. I recommend staying in the shaded areas as much as possible.
For the ones that are using spf 30 for daily, 1 application is good per. Day. If you are wearing 50 and are outside applying 30 mins before going outside and reapply if you are sweating or get wet..
WITH lighter skin types after using laser hair removal it is recommended to avoid sun 3 weeks before and after.. Darker skin types 1 week before and 1 week after .. your esthetician should always be notified if you have had sun exposure and she can evaluate you before doing the treatment.. most cases you will have to reschedule your appointment.. better to be safe always….
